What exactly is it that makes that stinker from Pittsburgh so good?

Is it the weak set-list or the completely uninspired playing?

The review at GDLG will provide you one persons view on why they feel the show is worthy of your attention.

11/29/81 has not been reviewed at the GDLG and there are at least 50 shows from 1981 that are stronger. A rather boring set-list, the band clearly mailed it in that night in Pittsburgh. There are many more inspired performances from the 80's than that stinker!

I haven't listened to that one yet, I'm slowing down my obsession with collecting starting with 1981, only trying to grab what is recommended or what looks good to me. I rarely make it into the 80's but if something looks good...I grabbed Pittsburgh only because of the 20+ minute He's Gone with the fat jam. And it's hard to pass up a Miller upgrade, even if it's from a year I don't listen to much (mostly 66-76 here, though I appreciate 77-81, moreso 77+78, 79+80 have a lot of moments, no doubt, but they mostly go unlistened). Otherwise it does look kinda boring.

It's good cuz I was there and had fun. So there, party pooper.

Actually haven't listened to it since then. I'll put it on my list cuz now I'm curious, but I'm actually not very good at listening critically to shows I enjoyed at the time. Well, fortunately I'm not paid to be a GD Critic ...

i agree with you there, cliff - i've heard this show before and it did not jive with me. no offense to longnstrange though! I just find other shows from this time much better, even though I've never really fell in love with any.

I remember really liking a few of the May '81 performances, but again, never really found anything from the 80s too thrilling. I'm listening to the 10/9/82 show again and it is still really good!
